INFLAMYAR Ointment and One Fine Season

I’ve conducted about 11 radio interviews with sports shows and viewpoint-type programs during the past couple months to discuss my One Fine Season novel, and many were great. Over the years, I’ve often heard friends talk about wanting to “write a novel,” but they never seem to find the time to actually do it. In September 2007, I told myself “if not now, when?” and finally sat down with serious intent to create my first book. During the past decade or more, I had outlined or even written first chapters to five novels – most of which I still eventually plan to write – so it was good to get started.

After about nine months of working on the computer during evenings and weekends, I finished the initial draft of what turned into “One Fine Season.” I chose to write this particular story first because of my wish to honor the memory of two friends who died young. Although both their untimely deaths took place more than 30 years ago, some events in this life make such a lasting impression that time can never truly alleviate the sadness or diminish the impact. The point is that I had been only thinking about this book for far too long, and felt the time was right to get it done.

Of course, inspiration for writing comes from many sources, including great people. I want to especially thank Rain Klepper, Peter Gosch and Jeannie Hinchcliff for their very helpful comments and advice on how to create the best story possible. By being frank about what worked for them and what needed tweaking, they enhanced the end result.
